Tanote Bay is on the eastern coast of Koh Tao. It is accessed by a partly paved road that goes over Mount Koh Tao. It is recommended that you take a 4 wheel drive taxi to Tanote Bay. Only experienced bikers on good bikes should attempt the road.

Tanote Bay has a beautiful white sand beach with good snorkelling and diving opportunities. At the end of the beach is a small outcrop and on the other side is a smaller beach. On a clear day you can see Koh Phangan from Tanote Bay.

There are a number of colorful corals near the shore as well as rocks to snorkel. You can expect to see fusiliers, rabbit fish and triple tail wrasse. There are two dive shops on the beach. Tanote Bay is a shallow dive and you can see coral trout, snapper and the six banded angel fish.

There are a number of bungalow operations and restaurants on the beach. There's a German dive school where you can also rent kayaks. Tanote Bay is a great option for people who want to just settle on one beach for their holiday. It's a beautiful spot that is worth the bumpy taxi journey.

Montalay Beach Resort is also known as Black Tip Dive Resort. Moondance Magic View is on a hill at the southern end of the beach. It offers 14 bungalows made from local materials. Tanote Villa Hill Resort is on the same hill and has an infinity pool with an incredible view of the bay.
